All Communicating with Coaches

Q: If you get mail from schools because of PSAT, is that their only interest?

A: Most likely – is the envelope from the Admissions Office or the Athletic Department?

When coaches are recruiting you, they will normally have a preprinted return address that marks it from the specific sport. If it’s not coming from that sport office or the Athletic Department, it’s not coming on behalf of the coaches.

Getting info from Admissions that you didn’t request is a good sign, regardless. It shows you likely can meet the academic requirements to be accepted to the school, so feel free to reach out to the coaching staff if you feel you may have the talent to also play there.

Remember – the #1 Rule in recruiting is that coaches need to see you play in order to have legitimate interest. Stats are great but can be misleading. To truly consider offering you a scholarship, they need to see you compete, either in person or on film. So if it’s a school you’re really interested in—get your film and Student-Athlete Resume together and send to the coaching staff.
