There is one mandatory step in order to accept a scholarship from a Division I or Division II institution, registering with the NCAA Eligibility Center and completing certification that verifies your academic requirements and status as an amateur athlete.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER…
• You must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (www.EligibilityCenter.org) in order to practice, play and receive a Division I or Division II athletic scholarship. You may register at any time, but it is recommend that you begin the process during your sophomore or junior year of high school.
• Academic requirements are not the same between Division I and Division II (and Division III). You may qualify for one division and not qualify for another. It’s best to be prepared to qualify for all!
• Academic Requirements:
#1 – Graduate from high school
#2 – Complete a minimum number of NCAA-approved core courses (varies by division and graduation year)
#3 – Earn a minimum GPA in those NCAA-approved core courses
#4 – Earn a required SAT or ACT sum score, dependent on Division I or II standards.
• Only courses that appear on your school’s List of NCAA Courses will be used in the calculation of the core GPA. Be sure to look at your high school’s List of NCAA Courses at www.eligibilitycenter.org.
• Your SAT/ACT scores must be reported DIRECTLY from the testing agencies, test scores that appear on transcripts will not be used. When registering for the SAT or ACT, use the NCAA Eligibility Center code of 9999 to ensure that your scores are reported directly to the NCAA.
• The SAT score used for NCAA purposes includes ONLY the critical reading and match sections. (The writing section of SAT is not used.)
• The ACT score used for NCAA purposes is the sum of the following four sections: English, mathematics, reading and science.
