ON CAMPUS: Duke Football and Campus Tour

ON CAMPUS: Duke Football and Campus Tour

Visited Duke Football last week, great tour by Player Personnel Coordinator (and former player) Lex Butler ’13 @LexButler29

– Very impressed with overall vibe at Duke Football. Common themes: Effort, attention to detail, discipline & priority to take care of guys in the program.

– #55 is symbol within program. First 5 = Average play takes 5 secs & Second 5 = Keys 2 Success- Alignment, Assignment, Effort, Execution & Finish.

– Just yards away from football complex: @DukeFuqua Business School & @DukeLaw – ranked nationally #12 and #11 respectively. #StudentAthlete

– Very impressed w/overall vibe @Duke_FB . Common themes: Effort, attention to detail, discipline & priority to take care of guys in program.

– Coach @DavidCutcliffe Top Philosophy for Program: Faith, Family, Future & Football. Interpreted as your faith, your family, your future…

– Duke players have special GPS device in pads that measures speed, load & more, helpful for monitoring & preventing injuries in real time. Technology also being tested on select Duke helmets measuring impact. Big hits = trainers get real-time alerts on their phones to evaluate. Duke players also wear monitors that measure heart rate & core temp– trainers get live updates to phone with issues.

– Finishing a big point of emphasis within #Duke program. Attention to detail to finish… go past the line & never let up.

– Players have access to 24/7 indoor space for speed improvement drills, sleds and agility ladders, right off lockerroom and team area.

– Another thing I noticed: Amount of respect for walk-ons. Scout team O/D POW run out of tunnel with flag & occasional scout team travel too. Attitude about walk-ons from head coach David Cutcliffe: Our walk-on program makes our program better.

– Smoothie bar with hand-picked recipes loaded on to iPads for players’ physical issues… Cherry juice a big ingredient. The team practices in the AM: Humus, yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, fruit, cereal and more available every morning for players to grab from fueling station.
